Why Do We Do It?
Because Esther showed us the power of friendship.
Esther Viola Frey lived only two short years, but the impact she made in that time was extraordinary. Esther had a rare genetic disorder, and although her journey included significant medical challenges, those who knew her remember something even more powerful: her ability to connect with everyone she met.
Esther never met a person who didn’t instantly become her friend.
Her kindness, joy, and love for others inspired the creation of Esther’s Friends, The Esther Viola Frey Memorial Foundation. Through this foundation, Esther’s gift of friendship continues by bringing comfort, essential resources, and connection to children and families facing long-term hospitalizations.
Why children facing long-term hospitalizations and their families?
Because we lived it.
A child’s extended hospital stay affects the entire family. While medical teams focus on treatment and healing, families often face unexpected emotional, practical, and financial challenges. Many needs fall outside traditional medical care, yet they can make an enormous difference in a child’s and family’s experience.
Esther’s Friends works alongside pediatric hospitals to address needs often left unmet and to help children and families feel supported, cared for, and connected.
Continuing Esther's Legacy
Esther’s life reminds us that friendship can change the way people experience difficult moments. Through every comfort kit, resource provided, and family supported, Esther’s spirit of friendship continues.
Every child and family we serve becomes one of Esther’s friends.
